Palace on Wheels
The Palace on Wheels is a luxury tourist train . Launched by the Indian Railways in association with Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation to encourage tourism in Rajasthan .
The train service was repaired and relaunched in August 2009 with a completely new design , plan and nourishment . It was nominated the 4th luxurious train in the world in 2010
The Palace on Wheels started on January 26 in 1983 .
The concept of the Palace on Wheels was comes from the royal background of the coaches , that had been originally designed to provide the personal railway coaches of the erstwhile rulers of the princely states of Rajputana , Gujarat , the Nizam of Hyderabad along with the Viceroy of British India . After independence , these coaches were parked and continued in this state for a quarter of a century until in 1981-82 , when the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and Indian Railways introduced a special heritage tourist train for giving a unique memorable experience to the tourists visiting Rajasthan .
The Palace on wheels is ranked as one of the top ten luxury train journeys in the world . It provides you with a heart-rending trip to the marvelous forts and palaces of Rajasthan in just seven days . Also understand the royal history of Taj Mahal in Agra . The journey to the hinterland of the desert will start every Wednesday evening at 1800 hrs from Delhi and ends on the following Wednesday early in the morning at 0730 hrs .
Interiors
The name Palace on Wheels was comes from its royal background of the coaches . Gradually State govt . and railway department brought several infrastructural modifications in the coaches while maintaining the same charm of the interiors alive , matching the interiors of the royal state . The train was modified by the air-conditioned wide gauges new train , which had 14 saloons , 2 restaurants cum kitchen cars , one Bar cum Lounge and 4 service Cars . The cabins of each and every saloon are attached with bath and shower . The train also carries a well-appointed lounge , library and bar.
Outside the bedrooms , each coach also has a seating lounge
in which passengers will get together , simply sit down observe the cities
since they glide past outside the windows , or enjoy a quiet cup of tea . An
attached cabinets with each saloon helps provide beverages and refreshments to
the accompaniment of relaxing piped music .
Facilities
There are 14 coaches in the train . Each one is named after former Rajput states and matches the design and interiors of the royal past : Alwar , Bharatpur , Bikaner , Bundi , Dholpur , Dungargarh , Jaisalmer , Jaipur , Jhalawar , Jodhpur , Kishangarh , Kota , Sirohi and Udaipur . Each coach possesses four cabins ( named chambers or saloons by the company ) with luxury services
There will be the comfortable bar cum lounge where you can relax over your favorite drink , cuddle in a book or speak with fellow passengers . Attached to it are two restaurant cars , Maharaja and Maharani respectively , with opulently swathed drapes , nicely crafted lights and table settings . Here accompanying chefs serve up a delicious choice of Indian , including Rajasthani , Continental as well as Chinese cuisine that are a feast for the palate .
Route
The train has a 7 nights & 8 days itinerary departs from New Delhi (Day 1), and covers Jaipur (Day 2), Sawai Madhopur and Chittaurgarh (Day 3), Udaipur (Day 4), Jaisalmer (Day 5), Jodhpur (Day 6), Bharatpur and Agra (Day 7), return to New Delhi (Day 8)
The train chugs from Safdarjung Railway Station New Delhi on a week-long run through Rajasthan every Wednesday night , with a trip also inbuilt to Agra and the Taj Mahal . Turban-wearing attendants take over from the time that you come to the platform, allocating you your coupes and explaining all the facilities that are on board . The train moves by night and arrives each morning at a new destination where new experiences await you.
